During this time of year, we are accustomed to getting a little more sugar. It’s hard to avoid the sugar plum fairies and the sweet potato, apple pie of it all during the holidays. So I’m usually ready for it. I’ve got my plan to resist.

But you know what can happen to the best plans. Resistance was futile when my daughter and I came down stairs this morning. My husband had made a sweet surprise while my daughter and I slept.

He had made a delicious looking cake with chocolate frosting and her name spelled out in M&Ms! He wanted to surprise out little girl who has been so good lately. But what he wound up doing is shocking the heck out of me. This is a daddy who isn’t exactly the man in the kitchen. The last time I ate a meal that he made was in Neveruary. Cooking isn’t his thing.

But lately he has developed a knack for baking. It may have been born out of his love for sweets but… who cares. My daughter squealed in delight as did I upon seeing the cake. And then it was time for some sugar. Yes, we both covered Daddy in about a million kisses. And when it comes to this kind of sugar no matter what time of year, resistance is futile.
