Moms the word right now. Mother’s Day has come and gone and it has me still thinking about my Mom and some of the things that my Mother taught me. And quite frankly, when I think about some of my Moms lessons I can’t stop laughing.

Here are some of the classic “Things My Mother Taught Me”:

My mom is a southern belle who used analogies often. When it comes to dressing and ensuring that we wear appropriately fitted clothing she would often say “don’t try to squeeze South Carolina into Davis Station”.

When it comes to rearing children approach to discipline may vary. However, this is more than a phrase used by my mom and many others “a hard head will soften your behind”.

There are many foods my mom cooked when we were growing up that we loved. Her stuffing, candied yams and sweet and sour sausage were some of my favorites. However, at mealtime her choices were usually “take it or leave it”!

The roles models in our homes don’t have to be perfect. They first need to be present. An ever present force guiding and loving us as we grow into the imperfectly perfect people we are meant to be.
